This past July, a small pizza parlour by the name of Papa Murphy's located in Reno Nevada decided to launch their first SMS campaign.
"We were always a little bit skeptical about anything new…" said Peter McLeod, owner of Papa Murphy's. "We did have a stamp card program that we used, and this was something along the same lines… We've had some great results."
McLeod decided to send a text message, or "broadcast," to their customer database on July 24, 2013. This offer was sent to their database of 878 members, which they compiled in the past four months. The message read something as simple as this, "Papa Murphy's Meal Deal Large DELITE 1 topping only Pizza + 1 Side item & 2 Litre Soda $10! Valid 7/24 & 7/25 only. Moana Lane only. Limit 3".
According to McLeod, this single message boosted business by 174%. McLeod concluded by saying, "If you're looking to target the market and you want to target the people that are in your area, there's no better way I can think of to do it. You can send a direct text to those people who come into your store anyway."
Needless to say, you do not need to be a fortune 500 company in order to profit from the use of mobile messaging for business. If a small "mom and pop" pizza parlour like Papa Murphy's can almost double their business from a single SMS message, just imagine what you can do with the help of Papersky?
