Going back to the time before the Internet
Here at papersky, a busy website design agency in London, we sometimes forget that when it comes to websites and marketing, we speak a different language to many. We talk about SEO, ROI, PPC, URLs, backlinks spiders and bots, all of which mean very little to the clients who come to us and who entrust us with the challenge of both creating an effective and efficient website design, and also getting people to find the website when searching on the Internet. Then, just as you think you are beginning to understand what is required, it all changes thanks to what is now becoming a mobile revolution. By that we are not referring to a band of thugs in cars and pickup trucks, we are talking about the influence mobile phones, or rather smartphones, are having on the way websites operate.
A couple of years ago there was a lovely, but also shocking article in the Daily Telegraph about the 40th birthday of the mobile phone. Not only was it a shock to realise that the mobile phone had been around that long, but it was also quite ironic that the company which introduced the world to mobile phones, Motorola, is now owned by Google. So what happens if we step back forty years and look at how marketing and businesses operated then, and maybe you will see similarities between then and now.
For a start, let’s look at web design as, after all we are a web design agency in London. A good web design is no different to a good high street shop back then. Walk into a shop and be met with a smile, a ‘Hello. How can I help you?’ and you will warm to the place and be more likely to spend money than if you are ignored when you walked in the door. Then there comes the ease of finding what you are looking for. If there are no labels on the shelves, if there are no banners or markings on the aisles, if the coffee is next to the tins of meat which are next to the apricot jam, then there is every likelihood you’ll find somewhere else to shop. If, when you get to the till and find they only accept cash or cheques, and you’ve only got a credit card, then the whole experience becomes memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Now, we are sure you have come across similar websites that are not welcoming from the onset, whose menus are unclear, where products are difficult to locate and who have restricted payment forms they accept, so maybe you can see that little has changed as far as the customers’ needs are concerned, it is just the words and technology that have changed.
Mobile technology is demanding that we change again, but still satisfying the consumer’s needs 100%. Whether it is effective website design, mobile marketing, email messenger, online marketing, email marketing or SMS marketing, make sure you call us first at papersky and we’ll gladly show you exactly how we can optimise your website and marketing strategies, all in a language you will understand, and in ways that will keep you one step ahead of your competitors.
