Curious Paper Stories
Sher Christopher is a paper sculpture artist from the UK. She brings life to her beautifully crafted, complex and expressive paper sculptures, that you can not help feel live their own fairytale lives. All Sher’s paper sculptures are engineered solely out of paper. She is inspired by life, literature (especially the works of William Shakespeare) film and music. Her paper sculptures have travelled the globe and we are proud to be able to showcase her work here at Papersky.
Queen Elizabeth, Elizabthan Pirate and traditional Japanese Geisha
Elizabeth I, a patron of English theater and the ruling monarch for the majority of Shakespeare’s life, was an obvious influence on his life and work. Her reign was also a period of exploration; the influence for these portraits. The Pirate and Geisha are contemporary figures of the Elizabethan period, but making them three-dimensional portraits brings the characters right into the room with you. The precise and intense detail of Elizabeth complements the loose roguishness of the Pirate, but the strength of these two characters is matched by the bold, graphic design of the Geisha. Three different approaches for three characters each with their own stories to tell.

The Tempest, Macbeth, Romeo and Juilet
The three Shakespearean book sculptures represent a small portion of my fascination for Shakespeare’s plays, or more importantly his ability to tell stories that reflect or challenge or thoughts and emotions in a way that still works today. Each book sculpture is an attempt to capture the beauty of the words and depict how they materialize in my imagination as I read or hear them.

Taxidermy Faery Specimens
Our need to collect, define, examine, own, and thereby destroy what we seek to understand and marvel at is something I wrestle with every time I step into a museum. The joy of discovering and learning is tinged with the feeling that the experience isn’t real. Characters from a passed world preserved and static forever in museum display cases, but how wonderful to see them and fascinate at their lives! Originally inspired by the illustrations of Arthur Rackham for ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, these sculptures give us a glimpse of the everyday tasks, clothing and tools of the individuals that make up this exotic world. But please rest assured, no faeries were harmed in the making of these sculptures!
